The Care at HELEN’S HOUSE® Long-Term Care Households Nursing Home Appleton

Realizing that a loved one requires long-term or hospice care can be devastating especially when you believe the only option is an institutional assisted living facility. HELEN’S HOUSE® Long-Term Care Households are a unique nursing home alternative to traditional homes for the elderly that combine caring assisted living services with the comfort and familiarity of a place that feel like home.

A breakthrough senior residential care alternative, each HELEN’S HOUSE® Long-Term Care Household is a custom-built senior living space, shared by four residents, and staffed at all times by a Caregiver who is supervised by our Director of Care, a Registered Nurse with over 20 years of nursing experience. Unlike common institutional elderly housing, our 1:4 care ratio allows Caregivers to truly engage with residents and provide an unprecedented level of long-term caring assisted living and support tailored to the individual needs of the residents. And as situations and conditions change, our Director of Care will communicate with you, coordinate with physicians, and above all – advocate for your loved ones’ best interests.

The first HELEN’S HOUSE® Long-Term Care Household opened in July 2013 and is locally family owned and operated with 5 locations in and around the Appleton, Wisconsin area.

The 1:4 care ratio at HELEN’S HOUSE® Long-Term Care Households enables the Caregivers to get to know their residents and give them the care and attention they deserve. We are able to attract Caregivers demonstrating high levels of care and compassion while also being highly skilled and capable. Our staff also includes a full-time Registered Nurse with over 20 years of nursing experience.

In addition to the obvious support provided by the caregiving staff and the Director of Care, the unique living environment at HELEN’S HOUSE® Long-Term Care Households enables the residents and their families to form strong friendships amongst themselves in a manner that can only occur in an actual home living environment. Our four residents thrive in homes and neighborhoods where they are not defined by their medical condition, but rather by who they are as individuals. We encourage our residents’ autonomy, respect their need for physical and emotional privacy, and take their preferences, choices and status as an adult into consideration when providing care, supervision and activities.

The Care At HELEN'S HOUSE®

The HELEN’S HOUSE® Long-Term Care Households Director of Care custom-designs a Care Plan for each resident with input provided by the resident and his/her physicians and family. The Director of Care oversees the care delivery and monitors residents for changes in condition and communicates this to the family and doctor. Our Caregivers work closely with the Director of Care to ensure that we consistently exceed the expectations of our residents and their families. And don’t forget the 1:4 care ratio at HELEN’S HOUSE® – this enables our staff to truly get to know their residents and give them the care and attention they deserve. Our 1:4 care ratio gives us the ability to conform our schedules to the needs of the residents instead of the other way around, which is often the case. Lastly, our residents will not have to move to a nursing home as their level of assistance increases; rather, the necessary supportive services can be coordinated and brought in to enable residents to remain at HELEN’S HOUSE® and to age in place.

Since establishing our first Helen’s House® Long-Term Care Household in 2013, we’ve met many active independent seniors who, with a light to moderate level of home health care, can remain in their home instead of moving to a senior care facility or arranging for 24-hour live-in care. For those individuals seeking a residential care alternative, we’re excited to introduce Helen’s House® Supportive Home Care, a collection of in home care services for seniors ranging from assisting with daily activities of living (ADLs) to facilitating the chores and errands of everyday life that can become difficult for a senior living on his or her own. This uniquely customized program of personal services provides an initial phase of age in place care that provides an assisted living alternative that maintains a sense of independence with a feeling of confidence you get from experienced supportive home care professionals dedicated to helping your loved ones feel engaged, empowered, and enabled. Helen’s House® Supportive Home Care is available to seniors throughout the Fox Valley, form Oshkosh to Green Bay; a service provided to help ensure the safe and dignified aging of seniors in our communities.
